Afraid of the future?
Deuteronomy week 1
What do you see when you look forward? In 1 year? 2 years? 20?
You might be one of those people who has a fairly firm idea of what you would like, or perhaps you’re someone who tries not to think about it.
Deuteronomy is a book that forces the people to think about their future. The people of Israel are on the edge of their promised land and are about to go in. What will happen?
In this first chapter God reveals to them the secret of feeling secure about the future. It will become a challenge for us to have our plans for the future in the right place, or more importantly the right person.
Read the passage – Deuteronomy 1:19-46
1. This is a reminder of how they got to the edge of the land. God told them to ‘Go up and take possession of it’ (v21). What did they do instead?
2. How had God treated them in v26-33?
3. In v41 they are reminded of the time they decided to go up and take the land. Why were they going to be unsuccessful?
